[The "5G era" of the plastics industry]
Release date:[2018/6/20] Is reading[690]次

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission jointly issued a notice on accelerating the promotion of 5G development, requiring various departments to improve policy support and accelerate the development of 5G (the fifth-generation mobile phone mobile communication standard, also known as the fifth generation mobile communication technology). The joint notice from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the SASAC made the development of 5G once again the focus of attention. According to relevant media reports, Hangzhou will build China's first 5G experimental site based on the 3GPP standard. At present, Zhejiang Mobile has built a number of 5G experimental sites in Hangzhou Wulin Commercial District, Qianjiang New City, West Lake Scenic Area and Binjiang High-tech Zone, trying to build Hangzhou into a 5G city. The 5G era is coming.

No matter whether it is the national level or the enterprise, they are striving to promote the development of 5G technology. What kind of benefits does 5G bring to people? How will it change our current society?

Compared to the 4G (4th generation mobile phone mobile communication standard) currently used today, it refers to the 4th generation mobile communication technology. The 5G network has three main characteristics: extremely high speed, large capacity, and extremely low delay. The 5G network has successfully reached 1 Gbps in the 28 GHz band, and the future 5G network has a transmission rate of 10 Gbps. This means that mobile users can complete the download of a high-definition movie in less than one second. 5G networks can also flexibly support a variety of different devices. In addition to supporting mobile phones and tablet computers, 5G networks will also need to support wearable devices, and concepts such as the Internet of Vehicles, Internet of Things, smart cities, and drone networks will change. It is a reality. In addition, 5G will be further applied to the fields of industry, medical care, security, etc., which can greatly promote the production efficiency in these fields and create new production methods. The emergence of 4G networks has brought the time delay of mobile networks to a 100ms threshold, making it possible to use applications with higher real-time requirements such as games, video, and data calls, and the emergence of 5G networks will reduce delays to a lower level. Will provide growing soil for more applications with extreme delay requirements.

In addition to making people's lives extremely convenient, the development of 5G network technology can create great industrial value. According to relevant department statistics, it is expected that by 2035, China’s total output of the 5G value chain will reach US$984 billion and create 9.5 million jobs, which is much higher than other countries in the world. The emergence of a series of new industries such as 5G base stations, 5G terminals and 5G chips will greatly stimulate the development of various industries in the society, including the plastics industry, which will have a very positive impact.

In terms of 5G terminals, chip giant Qualcomm and OPPO, a well-known mobile phone manufacturer in China, held a media briefing. At the conference, OPPO used a prototype to demonstrate the 5G network speed. It is understood that this phone has a downlink speed of 1.4Gbps and a downlink speed of 160Mbps. According to statistics, after the development of 4G technology was popularized, only in May of this year, the country's 4G mobile phone market shipments reached 37.836 million units, although the proportion of 4G mobile phone shipments fell compared to last year, the mobile phone shipments from January to May this year The amount is still as high as 159 million. Such a huge mobile phone market will inevitably drive the development of other industries once it is commercially available. The various plastic materials used in mobile phones will also greatly promote the development of the industry.

People only have 5G terminals, and the construction of 5G base stations is also a huge project and market. The 4G base station is also taken as an example. According to statistics, there were 3.28 million 4G base stations only for mobile companies by 2017, and there were more than 5 million base stations for the three major operators. Most of the main equipments such as radio frequency devices, antennas, and optical modules used in the construction of 4G base stations need to use plastic materials. For example, the antenna uses a new material called PTFE, and the domestic plastic enterprises that can produce such materials and not much. Antennas used by 5G base stations have higher requirements for materials, and related experts have even stated that the number of 5G base stations will be more than twice that of 4G base stations. The construction of a single base station will bring huge benefits to the plastics industry.
Although the commercialization of 5G has not arrived yet, the country began to implement a 5G commercial layout as early as 2013. The MWC Mobile World Congress held earlier this year has become a stage for all parties to showcase their 5G results. Huawei also kicked off the 5G commercial network construction this year. 5G is getting closer and closer to the people. For the plastics industry, it is necessary to keep abreast of the trend of 5G technology development, to produce materials with unique quality and excellent performance, and to manage the “5G” era of the plastic industry.
